MOVIE POSTER BASE PAINTINGS

Have you ever wondered how an artist realizes a painting? What steps distinguish his creative process? How many sketches, erasures, and remakes are there before getting to the final result? This collection of movie posters is dedicated to those who value all the stages that lead to an artwork, not just the definitive achievement. It is a series of re-created original paintings that tells the story of cinema, but more importantly of the people who drew it. In all its milestones. When there was no photography or digital media, movie poster scenarios were conceived and handpainted by studio artists. These great artists painted beautiful scenes inspired by the stories and characters of the films. Only in the second stage, during the printing phase, textual elements were added by the movie studio to the original base paintings. The title, the names of protagonists and directors, and all the additional information appeared after the art was created. It was a fast process that followed the hectic pace of the film industry. This collection of re-created movie poster paintings aims to bring back the original using modern digital technology: the works of art created by the artist before they were made into movie advertisements. Stripped of lettering and text, the paintings of conceived scenes become enchanting works of art history, albeit less well-known. The original paintings have disappeared for nearly all the early hand-painted posters, as the studios no longer exist and when they did they had no use for the actual artwork. Take time to look at them with the same eye you would reserve for fine artwork displayed in the vast halls of museums. Imagine them this way, walking a virtual path: pausing, moving, and reflecting on each painting you encounter on your journey.
